China Central Television (CCTV) reported the SK-2 Project in 5th January, 2017 and 19th September, 2019. The project, a part of the Continental Scientific Drilling Program in Songliao Basin, is chaired by Academician Chengshan Wang as the chief scientist and executed by Prof. Pujun Wang as chief geologist. The program is carefully organized by a multidisciplinary, international research team. It has a global perspective, conforms to international standards, and is the result of multi-party cooperation. It fills a world gap in the complete and continuous record of Cretaceous continental deposits. It lays a solid research foundation for the study of climate and environmental changes in the global greenhouse between 65 million and 145 million years ago.

The Continental Scientific Drilling Program in Songliao Basin consists of two parts: SK-1 Project (Well SK-1) and SK-2 Project (Well SK-2). The total length of cores taken from the two projects reached 9825m, which exceeds the height of Mount Everest. The team of Prof. Pujun Wang performed a centimetre-level sequence of fine descriptions for the cores. As Yongyi Zhu, Chief Drilling Engineer said: the detailed description of the Well SK-2 by the team of Prof. Pujun Wang is the most detailed and accurate simulation figure he has seen since his drilling career started. He also said that the actual strata encountered demonstrated that the depth error of the well marked on the figure is about 10 meters, which is a great achievement.
